I have tried to convince people (Indians and some Chinese) to join IV. People don't. They don't believe IV has the capability to get anything done. A lot of people don't care if IV existed or not. They believe that Congress will get to it when it deems right. Core members were asking a few weeks ago if that is the message people are sending. Yes it is.

No one else was interested in removing the hard cap. It took a lot of co-ordination and lot of trips and lot of hard work to get it done. If that harmful provision had stayed, then the new quota of 650,000 in S 2611 would have been useless. People forget achivements of IV or think that it was negligible. Retrogression would have been exacerbated with hard country cap.
You are reading the message right. I don't want IV to die. I am suggesting people with leadership skills to come forward and get SOME F**KING RESULTS. That is what is needed. It is do or die situation.

If you take leadership, you need to do things locally like meeting with other people in your city, forming a group of 4-5 people and going and meeting your congressman. And if you want to be in IV core, then you have to call us on the phone number listed and we can see if you can add any value to core by doing things we routinely do, like content prep, website maint, travelling to DC for meetings, talking to other orgs etc. If you are up to the job, sure, why not. Whatever caused their failure, caused our failure too. In DC, issues are not debated and legislated based on morality and merits of those issues. They are taken up based on contemporary politics and other factors like lobbying, public attention, elections and political parties.
For example: Last year, they debated a constitutional amendment to ban flag burned in USA. And spent precious time of congress on debating it. How to you think that would have helped anyone? Even it had passed, what was the merit of the issue? Flag burned mostly happens outside USA. In USA people rarely burn US flags. So banning flag burning in USA is like banning metric system. Its meaningless. Yet, they spent time on it.
Read papers, read articles from other lobbying orgs and learn something. Legislations dont happen on their own because the issues carry weight and have merits. Merits have nothing to do with congressional action.

Under the Fees section, it stated that if you filed your I485 on or after July 2007, and you paid the I485 fees, then no fees is required. Does that mean that I don't have to pay for the $305 for my advanced parole?
My I485 was received sept 2007, and I paid for the I485 fees, offcourse. This is something that I'm not too sure.
The filers who ever filed in July 2007 to August 15 2007 need to pay Advance parole money also.

Immediate attention of Congress/Senate to increase GC visa numbers for Retrogressed/ALL countries needs to be set first priority in Lame Duck or new congress sessions...and we/IV have to work towords that..

However it seems like asking for increase in visa numbers, or just the ability to file I-485....What does this mean - automatically it would require increase in visa numbers, and reduction in name check times, for example.
Dependents can wait to work if it is only a year. We dont need to keep renewing visas. We are not stuck to one employer.

I was 100% determined in the beginning to attend the rally, but could not for the following reasons.
1> I was in Dallas and family in SoCal for last 9 months(from Dec 2006 to be precise). I used to meet my family every other weekend. Was trying very hard to find a project in Socal, and finally I got one where joining date was Spet 13th. I could not dare to ask for leave in the very first week. To tell you the truth it took so long b'cos of H1 status, everybody wants me to transfer my H1 or they are looking only for GC/EAD holders. Hoping to get EAD soon.
2> My husband was planning to attend but somewhere in Aug last week we got FP notices and date is Sept 18th. The FP letter clearly mentioned that postponing might cause delays so we decided that he also has to drop the idea.
Of course we contributed towards the rally.
I am very proud to be part of such excellent grass root organization and now since I am in Irvine I can be active in Socal chapter.
Also we are eager to join in the next rally and have total faith in IV leadership.

Who said that, GC is minimum in this country to live a normal life, with out it so many constraits as mentioned in our forum many times.

This is exactly what I do after a similar experience in 2003. I always discourage my friends and family from flying with Air France though I disagree with the statement about 'European carriers'. I have flow KLM & Swiss and they are very good airlines.
I think the best airlines are US airlines unless you are flying Delta.
I agree Swiss is good, and so is KLM. The issue is with the indian staff that they have in india. But I have no issues with them or Air India, cos atleast they are indian.
but I would never let a european/us carrier treat me like dirt.
And likewise, I dont have Air France even as an option. regardless of whether they are cheap or not.
I know I can live without them, and would only fly with them if they were the last airline which can fly airplanes.

Besides, you are absolutely right. This country takes notice when people speak up! The problem is that that's not the case in our birth countries, and thus we are not hard-wired to speak-up! But if we make an effort we will definitely see the results! When people speak up and make a case for their basic rights then they are given those rights! But the rights will be taken away if we give them away, and the way to give them away is to remain quiet! This is a country where the fittest survive, and people will take what is yours if you do not claim it and/or protect it!
We will make our voices heard, and we will end retrogression! But we cannot do it without us all joining together!

I worked with Fragomen for my GC and H-1B application. I didn't had any complaints/issues with them. They followed up with me (twice) for renewing EAD & AP, but I went ahead and did it on my own. One thing I've observed though with Fragomen is their administrative office makes a number of mistakes sometimes. Like for me, I got invoices in error a number of times which when I worked with my attorney were taken care of. Also, on their client portal I noticed my receipt numbers were erroneously entered, which when I reported to them were corrected. I guess that could happen in any law firm. Overall my experience was good!

What I meant to say, you�ll succeed if you have the capability (with your professional knowledge, experience and skills) in your professional filed but definitely not with USCIS.
I can say, USCIS is a great leveler in this aspect. Everybody from PhD to Programmer is same in front of USCIS. All have to wait 10+ yrs with mental tension and anxiety, no matter what your caliber is and how successful you are in your profession.
Don�t get me wrong here. I also had to suffer for visa stamping, renewals, I-94 issues, PA etc in US Visa processing (nothing sever though). At the 5th yr of H1-B, I just decided.. to hell with that.....
I don't know about you guys, but, I would be heart patient with that kind of anxiety in another 5 yrs of GC process �. Really need a lion's heart to pursue US GC now days

2. He is not going to do anything for anyone in his last few months. Especially for us who are not in anybody's radar.
3. The white house is better staffed to handle mail and has a larger team to scrutinize mails. Truth is Bush meay never hear about 25K mails sent over a month.

This is a good effort but wrong target. May be ppl sense that and are holding off.
4. We cannot be just an internet forum anymore we need meet n greets..periodic meetings that bring ppl together face to face.

If you disagree with IV's goal that is fine too but it is unfair to hundred of volunteers who are as smart and analytical, as yourself, if not more and still spend hundreds of volunteer hours on this campaign and come back to be greeted by such unhelpful and critical posts.
The reason we might fail will not be because of high odds against us, or wrong target, rather inaction and refusal to either be a leader or a follower on IV campaign issues

I am guessing the presumption behind logiclife's post is that we're all responsible, thinking and educated adults who shouldn't have to be begged and pleaded with to behave with decency or show some common courtesies at the least. If IV was formed a few months ago, then it's understandable tho not excusable that people who have legitimate ead/ap concerns just talk about it on the forum and then leave. But if someone's been around for more than a year and still has not participated in a meeting or contributed in other ways its truly pathetic. Even tho I don�t track every piece of news on immigration, I consider myself fairly well informed and day by day the outlook only gets scarier. Today at lunch, we were talking about junk forwards and poking fun at those who send them and a friend mentioned how he has been getting so many fwds with anti-immigrant messages these days(my friends are obviously pro-legals, somewhat ambivalent about illegals but not the lou audience type & don�t lose sleep over a bunch of poor busboys/gardeners crossing the border). This anti movement is growing powerful by the day with clear agendas and goals but theres no countervailing pro-movement to speak of except iv, only sympathisers. Yesterday Lou was on tv promoting his book to princeton club in new york. After Lou had chewed off on the illegals in response to a question, another member conveniently queried him on what he thought of the top end of the immigration spectrum worked. After labelling H1b a disaster(in other words people like us are here in the US because of a broken program) he sought to portray congressional hearings as some farce as apparently only Bill Gates was invited to speak this year. He ofcourse didn�t mention that orgs like CIS, numbersusa and others were invited last year when his friends like Tancredo were running congress, orgs that would be labelled as hate groups in normal times in the halls of congress helping set policy! And then he said that 75% of H1bs goto Indians in the US who work for Indian companies domociled here to just to outsource American jobs. Not only did he make a chillingly racist assertion based on a complete lie, he was implicitly advocating shutting down the only legal avenue to immigrate for people like us who didn't win a genetic lottery and were born into the right family! This, in New york of all places and that too at Princeton club after dissing about 'elites' and how 'acquiescent' some were!! Voicing some legitimate concerns of the common man along with radical or divisive agendas are nothing new but he's taking it to new levels. That's why as someone else already said elsewheer, iv shld be more than a bulletin board to discuss legitimate ead/ap concerns- it�s the only openly pro-immigrant(EB)movement. There are a few opinion journalists penning a piece here & there but that doesn't help much. Some of us are in cozy well paying jobs who are certain to get gc's and can wait however long it takes but that�s no reason to sitby and let others who are not so certain about their future struggle alone. I dont think filing EB2 is that easy. First condition is not that candidate likes to be Eb2 that drives the labor application (I wish that was the case then every one would have asked for EB1) it is the job requirement that should be able to qualify for EB2. (for people working in large corporations this will be the stumbling block) for people in consulting business this is not an issue but in this tight market with A2P and wages could spoil the party along with DOL activism for audit does not mean things will be piece of cake. For EB2 from candidates side he/she needs to have MS preferably in same field as work ( So MS Mechanical working as DBA might face RFE to explain) or the previous work experience might be scrtunized more to validate it satisfies the labor requirements.

Porting process is a legit process and for well qualified EB-3 india folks thats the only ray of Hope.
You can rant about it but noone going to stop the porting process becaue the folks who initially filed under EB-3 are now eligible to get Job promotions , new roles and responsibilities in their Career and in some cases new Sr. Job positions which are qualified EB-2. By the way they do file new PERM labor and new I-140, it is not a automatic qualification just based on number of years waiting in the endless EB-3 india queue.
Under the current circumstances where EB-3 india doesnt get any spillover numbers or any such relief like VISA recapture bill, do you expect them to go behind the lines with new EB-2 PD? What about the wait period in the backlog centres, in the PERM process and for few I140 stage waiting period? Its the law and people are following it. You can try porting to EB1 if you are qualified enough and port your EB-2 PD to EB-1.
